Between July and September 2026, Sleep Foundation's product testing team added three SweetNight mattresses to five of its best-of lists. The CoolNest® Memory Foam Mattress was named Best Cooling Memory Foam Mattress. The CoolNest® Hybrid Mattress was named Best Cooling Mattress twice, on the innerspring list and the sciatica list. The CoolNest® Ultra Memory Foam Mattress was named Best Mattress for Hot Sleepers on the most comfortable mattresses list and Best for Couples on the back pain under $2,000 list.
These are crowded lists. The same pages carry the Helix Midnight Luxe, Saatva Classic, WinkBed, Nectar Classic, Bear Elite Hybrid, Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid and Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex, most of them at considerably higher prices. Below is what the testers actually scored, what they liked, and the caveats they printed, because the caveats are the part that tells you whether a given CoolNest suits your body.
SweetNight CoolNest Sleep Foundation Awards at a Glance
| Mattress | Sleep Foundation list | Award | Test Lab score | List updated |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CoolNest® Memory Foam | Best Memory Foam Mattress | Best Cooling Memory Foam Mattress | 8.2/10 | Sept 28, 2026 |
| CoolNest® Hybrid | Best Innerspring Mattress | Best Cooling Mattress | 7.9/10 | Aug 19, 2026 |
| CoolNest® Hybrid | Best Mattress for Sciatica | Best Cooling Mattress | 7.9/10 | July 22, 2026 |
| CoolNest® Ultra | Most Comfortable Mattresses | Best Mattress for Hot Sleepers | 8.5/10 | Sept 29, 2026 |
| CoolNest® Ultra | Best Mattress for Back Pain Under $2,000 | Best for Couples | 8.5/10 | Sept 29, 2026 |
All three models were tested in all three heights. On every card the 12-inch build is rated medium firm (6), the 14-inch medium (5) and the 16-inch medium soft (4), so on a CoolNest the height you pick is also the firmness you pick.
CoolNest Memory Foam: Best Cooling Memory Foam Mattress

The entry model in the range placed on Sleep Foundation's best memory foam mattress list with an 8.2/10 Test Lab score. Its strongest numbers were pressure relief at 9.5/10 and motion isolation at 9/10, and the list names it for "side sleepers across weight groups, couples, and people with persistent shoulder or hip pain."
The testers' description of why it works for side sleepers is specific: each design "hugs the body to support the spine and promote even alignment through your hips, lower back, shoulders, and neck." On motion, they wrote that "our testers felt virtually no movement when lying side by side on the mattress, even during position changes."
What they did not like is printed just as plainly: it is "probably too soft for back and stomach sleepers over 230 pounds," some testers found it hard to move on, and "our temperature sensors detected a bit of heat retention." Temperature control scored 7/10. That is a respectable number for an all-foam bed at this price, but if heat is your main problem rather than one of several, the Ultra below scored higher on it.
CoolNest Hybrid: Best Cooling Mattress on the Innerspring and Sciatica Lists
The Hybrid is the only SweetNight model to win the same award twice. On the best innerspring mattress list and the best mattress for sciatica list it was named Best Cooling Mattress, with a 7.9/10 Test Lab score, pressure relief 9/10, motion isolation 8.5/10, and temperature control and edge support both at 7.5/10.
The innerspring write-up makes the point that separates it from most coil beds: "Innerspring mattresses aren't known for their pressure-relieving abilities," but "SweetNight's CoolNest Hybrid breaks from this trend with three designs, each with a high profile and ample comfort layer cushioning." The sciatica list explains the cooling award: the Hybrid "nails this balance of cushioning and thermoregulation thanks to cooling materials infused into the top layers and a coil system that promotes airflow throughout the interior."
Side sleepers gave it the best position scores of any CoolNest on these lists: 9/10 under 130 lb, 8.5/10 from 130 to 230 lb and 7/10 above 230 lb. The caveats: "most stomach sleepers will find all three designs too soft," edge support was described as limited in the sciatica write-up, and the testers noted that "initial off-gassing odor can be persistent and unpleasant." Let it air out in a ventilated room for the first days.
CoolNest Ultra: Best Mattress for Hot Sleepers and Best for Couples

The flagship picked up two awards in the same week. On the most comfortable mattresses list it is the Best Mattress for Hot Sleepers; on the best mattress for back pain under $2,000 list it is Best for Couples. Both entries carry the same 8.5/10 Test Lab score, with motion isolation 10/10, pressure relief 9.5/10 and temperature control 7.5/10.
The hot sleeper award is unusual for an all-foam bed, and the testers say why: "many softer mattresses struggle to sleep cool because their layers are more likely to absorb and trap heat, but models like the SweetNight CoolNest Ultra buck this trend by integrating breathable materials into their designs." The couples award rests on the motion score: "As an all-foam model, this model's thick comfort system provides the motion isolation couples usually look for to minimize interruptions. The zoned support system adds a touch of responsiveness to help keep your torso and hips aligned with the rest of your spine."
Their advice on height is worth following. "If pressure relief and motion isolation are your top priorities," they recommend the 14-inch and 16-inch models. "The 12-inch model is your best bet if temperature control is more important." The 12-inch medium firm was also the most popular version across their team. The caveats: most stomach sleepers found all three designs too soft, back and stomach sleepers over 130 lb may sink more than they want, and it is currently sold in queen and king only.
Which Award-Winning CoolNest Fits Your Sleep Position and Weight?
The awards tell you where each model is strong. The position-by-weight scores tell you who it is for. Pulled together from the three cards:
| Sleeper | CoolNest Memory Foam | CoolNest Hybrid | CoolNest Ultra |
|---|---|---|---|
| Side, under 130 lb | 7.5 | 9 | 8.5 |
| Side, 130–230 lb | 8.5 | 8.5 | 8.5 |
| Side, over 230 lb | 6.5 | 7 | 7 |
| Back, 130–230 lb | 7 | 7.5 | 6.5 |
| Back, over 230 lb | 5.5 | 7 | 5.5 |
| Stomach, 130–230 lb | 6 | 7.5 | 6 |
Three readings stand out. If you are an average-weight side sleeper, all three score the same, so choose on cooling and budget: the Memory Foam is the value pick, the Ultra is the one for heat. If you sleep on your back or stomach and weigh more than 130 lb, the Hybrid's coils give it the clear lead. And if you share the bed, the Ultra's 10/10 for motion isolation is the highest score any CoolNest received in any category.
How to Read These Scores
Some context keeps the awards in proportion. Sleep Foundation has been part of Sleep Doctor since 2023, so its reviews and Sleep Doctor's come from one testing operation, and both sites earn commissions on some of the links they publish. The scores are also not fixed: Sleep Foundation revised its CoolNest Ultra review on September 4, 2026, raising temperature control from 6.5 to 7.5 and the overall rating from 8.3 to 8.5. We quote the lists as they read on September 30, 2026, and we have kept the caveats alongside the praise, since those are what should shape which model you buy.
For the full scorecards from other testers, including Mattress Nut's 9.0/10 and NapLab's 8.5/10 for the Ultra, see our CoolNest Ultra expert review roundup. To compare the whole range side by side, read CoolNest vs Pro vs Ultra vs Hybrid.
Trial, Warranty and Current CoolNest Prices
Every CoolNest ships free within the contiguous U.S. with a 100-night trial and a 10-year warranty, which Sleep Foundation's write-ups confirm. Give a new mattress at least 30 nights before you judge it; foam takes a couple of weeks to break in. Current prices for every size and height are on the SweetNight Fall Sale page, and the full range is in our best cooling mattress collection.
Sleep Foundation Awards FAQ
Did Sleep Foundation name a SweetNight mattress one of the best of 2026?
Yes. Three CoolNest models placed on five 2026 lists: the Memory Foam as Best Cooling Memory Foam Mattress, the Hybrid as Best Cooling Mattress on the innerspring and sciatica lists, and the Ultra as Best Mattress for Hot Sleepers and Best for Couples.
Which SweetNight mattress does Sleep Foundation recommend for hot sleepers?
The CoolNest Ultra, named Best Mattress for Hot Sleepers with a 7.5/10 for temperature control. Its testers recommend the 12-inch model if staying cool matters more than maximum cushioning.
Is the CoolNest Hybrid good for sciatica?
Sleep Foundation put it on its best mattress for sciatica list as the Best Cooling Mattress, for people who "want a plush, adaptive mattress that will contour closely to their body." It scored 9/10 for pressure relief. Stomach sleepers will likely find it too soft, and sciatica itself should be managed with your doctor.
Is the CoolNest Ultra good for couples?
It was named Best for Couples on the back pain under $2,000 list and scored a perfect 10/10 for motion isolation, the highest score in any category across the CoolNest range.
What did Sleep Foundation criticize?
Softness for heavier back and stomach sleepers on the all-foam models, limited edge support, some heat retention on the Memory Foam, off-gassing odor on the Hybrid at first, and queen and king only on the Ultra.
